Davido Withdraws From Imade’s Custody Case, Speaks Out
Afrobeats icon Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has officially announced that he’s stepping away from the ongoing custody case involving his daughter, Imade. But according to him, this decision wasn’t about winning or losing it was about protecting his peace and his child.
Taking to X late on Friday, Davido cleared the air on one major rumor making the rounds online. He revealed that he never asked for full custody of Imade, contrary to public speculation. Instead, his request was simply for joint custody.
In his words, “I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade. So I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate.”
The singer then went on to explain why he decided to withdraw completely from the case. According to Davido, things took a painful turn in court when his late son was mentioned during proceedings—a moment he described as crossing a red line.
He didn’t hold back, calling it the “lowest blow,” and made it clear that bringing up his deceased child was something he could never accept.
Despite stepping back from the legal battle, Davido emphasized that his actions came from a place of love and responsibility as a father. He expressed confidence that, one day, his daughter will understand that he fought for her.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love,” he added.
The situation gained even more attention after a Lagos-based lawyer, Maruf Muhammed, shared live updates from the Lagos State High Court in Yaba. He described the atmosphere as tense, claiming Davido momentarily lost his cool during cross-examination.
Davido later responded on Instagram, criticizing what he called unprofessional behavior from the opposing legal team. He also offered a heartfelt prayer, saying he wouldn’t wish the pain he and his wife have endured on anyone.
Amid all the drama, fans recently spotted Imade spending quality time with her father after winning a talent competition—a moment that warmed hearts online and reminded many that the child’s happiness should always come first.
As the custody issue continues to attract public attention, many fans are now calling for peaceful co-parenting and a focus on Imade’s well-being above all else.
