Tems, Burna Boy become African artistes with most Billboard Hot 100 entries

The duo of Nigerian singers, Tems and Burna Boy have broken their tie with South African group, Seether, as the African artists with the most Billboard U.S Hot 100 entries. The trio were previously tied at seven entries each, but Burna Boy and Tems earned new entries on the chart this week through their features on J.Cole’s album, ‘The Fall-Off.’ ‘Bounce Road Blues’ featuring Tems and Future debuted at 34, while ‘Only You’ with Burna Boy debuted at 78, bringing the Nigerians’ total to a joint 8 -the most by any African. Tems has now earned three Billboard Hot 100 entries this year with ‘Raindance’ with Dave, ‘What You Need’ and the latest ‘Bounce Road Blues.’ She has the most entries for any African artist this year, so far. Billboard under fire for calling Rema ‘one-hit wonder’

United States entertainment magazine, Billboard, has come under fire on social media for calling singer Rema a “one-hit wonder”. Billboard had on February 16, 2026, reshared an article from its June 2025 chart beat. Billboard in the post on X, named Rema number six on the list of its “25 Biggest One Hit Wonders of the 21st Century” for his global smash ‘Calm Down’, which featured Selena Gomez, an American pop star. The magazine which explained that Rema has not been able to make it to the Hot 100 again after featuring Selena Gomez “although he has landed six top 10s on U.S. Afrobeats Songs, through the June 7, 2025, chart”. Popular Nigerian singer, Joeboy has said that Afrobeats is currently ongoing through renaissance, emphasising that the genre is being purged of adulterated music. Speaking midway into his performance at his sold-out Valentine’s Day show in Lagos, the ‘Faji’ crooner explained that Afrobeats was returning to “real music.” He added that “wack music no longer have a place in the genre. “Afrobeats right now is going through a purge. We are getting back to the times where real music is going to stay – no more gimmicking and all of that. “I can feel it already and I am happy that we are getting back to those zones where the music speaks. Nigerian singer, Rema’s debut album ‘Rave & Roses’ has ended its record as the longest-charting African album on Billboard World Albums Chart, hitting a milestone of 170 weeks on the chart. Rave Roses broke the record, which was preciously held by Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ (164 weeks) last year. Other longest-charting African projects on chart include Tems’ ‘Born In The Wild’ (79 weeks), Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini’ (63 weeks), and the legendary Fela’s ‘The Best Of The Black President’ (45 weeks). Meanwhile, Rema earned his second Billboard Hot 100 chart entry this week with ‘Secondhand’ with Don Toliver debuting at 29. Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba, has named Burna Boy the top Afrobeat artiste on the global stage. 2Baba gave the verdict amid the controversy surrounding the “Top 3” artiste in the Nigeria music industry. the popular ‘Big 3’ term is used to refer to  Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido who are celebrated as Nigeria’s most dominant global musical exports. However, the singer during his latest appearance on Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, stated that “Burna Boy is currently at the top”, globally. “I have favourite songs from the three.
