Peter Okoye (Mr P) Shares the Childhood Trauma That Still Drives Him

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P, has opened up about the one thing that truly scares him and it isn’t death.

During a recent appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, the award-winning artiste revealed that his biggest fear in life is returning to poverty. According to him, the memories of his difficult childhood remain a powerful reminder of how far he has come and what he never wants to experience again.

Mr P recounted a heartbreaking moment from his early years when his family’s single-room boys’ quarters was demolished while they were still inside. The property had been sold by their landlord, leaving the family eight children and their parents scrambling without a place to live.

He recalled:

“I am not afraid of death. The only thing I am afraid of in this life is poverty, of being broke.
I have tasted it before. We were living in a one-bedroom apartment six boys, two girls, my mum and dad. The room was divided by a curtain. One day, while we were still inside, a bulldozer came and started demolishing the house.”

For the singer, this traumatic experience serves as a constant motivation to work hard and stay focused. And though he has achieved remarkable success, Mr P says poverty is a chapter he never wants to revisit.

This emotional revelation offers fans a deeper understanding of the drive behind the former P-Square star proof that success often comes from surviving life’s toughest moments.
