Afrobeats sensation "Simisola Kosoko", popularly known as "Simi", has opened up about her deep pride in being Nigerian, describing the spirit of her fellow citizens as unmatched and impossible to imitate.
Speaking on a recent episode of the "90s Baby Show", the "Joromi" crooner said that what she loves most about Nigeria is the resilient and vibrant energy of its people.
“My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it. Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian,” she said.
Simi went on to highlight how unique Nigerians are, noting that even in Hollywood, filmmakers rarely attempt to mimic Nigerian accents.
“Even when they’re faking African accents in movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent. They always fake East African or South African accents,” she added.
However, while Simi expressed love for her country, she also voiced concern about its challenges. She lamented that many Nigerians continue to leave in search of better opportunities abroad — something she believes wouldn’t happen if the nation truly worked for its people.
“That’s why I wish the country was better. Because I feel like no one would want to leave,” she said.
Simi’s heartfelt words reflect the bittersweet sentiment shared by many Nigerians — a deep love for their homeland coupled with a yearning for positive change.
