2Baba at 25: A Heartfelt Letter of Gratitude from a Nigerian Music Legend

Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, famously known as 2Baba, has penned an emotional open letter to mark his 25th anniversary in the music industry — a journey he describes as one filled with gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.

In the heartfelt piece titled “Open Letter of Gratitude: 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the multiple award-winning artist reflected on his remarkable career, expressing deep appreciation to those who have shaped his path — from his earliest supporters to industry pioneers who believed in his dream long before he became a household name.

“As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love,” 2Baba wrote.

“This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba.”

The iconic artist paid tribute to several key figures who played pivotal roles in his rise to stardom — including Nelson Brown, Baba Keke (Kenny Ogungbe), D1 (Dayo Adeneye), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt.

2Baba credited Nelson Brown for discovering and nurturing Plantashun Boiz, the trio that launched his career alongside Faze and Blackface.

“You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed. You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream,” he wrote.

He also acknowledged Baba Keke and D1 as mentors whose influence opened doors that shaped not only his destiny but also the Nigerian entertainment landscape.

“You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together; we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story.”

2Baba further expressed deep gratitude to Eddie Lawani for providing Plantashun Boiz with early platforms to showcase their talent when opportunities were scarce. He described DJ Jimmy Jatt as a loyal brother and constant source of encouragement who has supported him since the beginning.

Reflecting on his journey, 2Baba emphasized that his success represents more than personal achievement — it is a tribute to the collective effort that built and elevated Nigerian music to global recognition.

“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he said.

From his humble beginnings in the late 1990s with Plantashun Boiz to becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons, 2Baba’s legacy remains etched in timeless classics such as African Queen, If Love Is a Crime, and For Instance.

As he celebrates 25 years of excellence, 2Baba’s message stands as a testament to the power of gratitude, resilience, and community — a reminder that even legends never walk alone.
